Eid Adha 2023 has the spirit to share with others, and it is also known as the sacrifice which comes from Arabic, “Qurban”, and literally means slaughtered animal. In the Muslim context, this is based on the story from Prophet Ibrahim AS and Ismail AS. The sacrificial service is carried out on the 10th of Dzulhijjah on the Eid al-Adha holiday and Tasyrik days every year as a form of approaching oneself to Allah. Sacrifice is a form of expression of gratitude, and provides lessons about sincerity (sacrificing wealth or sacrificial animals). Sacrifice is not just about celebrating Eid al-Adha, but also brings many benefits that are not found in other forms of worship. The benefits of sacrificing include increasing feelings of gratitude and love for Allah SWT, fostering concern for others, purifying one’s property and soul, and making life better.

Thus, the group of physics students and some lecturers from the Physics Department, Universitas Negeri Malang has the activity to develop social awareness through sharing with others on the occasion of Eid Adha 2023, on May 1st – June 30th 2023. Beside celebrating the Eid Adha 2023, the spirit is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically on the following goals: end poverty in all it forms everywhere (Goal 1), end hunger and achieve food security (Goal 2), and reduce inequality in the society (Goal 10).

On this occasion, residents of the Physics Department carried out the slaughter of sacrificial animals on June 30 2023, which is Friday. This activity starts at 09.00 WIB-14.15 WIB. The sacrificial animals that were slaughtered were 2 large goats. This year’s slaughtering of sacrificial animal meat was carried out in the yard of Building B22 FMIPA, and the slaughtering of sacrificial animals itself was carried out at the slaughterhouse, precisely in Duwet Village, Poncokusumo District, Malang. The mechanism for slaughtering sacrificial animals at the butcher’s place is that the sacrificial animal is handed over to the butcher to be slaughtered, then after completion of the slaughter the sacrificial meat is transported using an open truck to the B22 FMIPA Building area to be cut into small pieces and weighed in accordance with the provisions. After the slaughter of the sacrificial animal is complete, it continues with the distribution of the sacrificial meat. The sacrificial meat was distributed to Physics Department residents first, then the rest was distributed to the community around Universitas Negeri Malang (UM).

Barnessa Gilda as the head of physics students’ group said, “I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has saved in this activity, which has really helped the continuity of the event. Thank you also to the Physics Department for helping us in carrying this activity. Yesterday’s activity was very good, busy, and definitely beneficial for everyone involved. With this work program, Physics Department residents, lecturers and people around UM can taste sacrificial meat on this holy day. “With this, it is hoped that in the future there will be more people saving at Qurbani, thereby spreading more happiness to others.”

“Thank God, on Eid al-Adha this year, we can all carry out the sacrifice smoothly. Thank you also to the committee for providing a place for sacrificial activities and also distributing the sacrificial meat. “Hopefully this kind of activity can continue in the years to come,” said Maulana as head of the 2023 Physics Student Division.

Positive response regarding the Sacrificial Savings activity from one of the Physics Department students “In my opinion, the activity is very positive, because it is a form of the department’s concern for the Physics Department residents in particular. And maybe it can also be used as a learning tool for students involved in the activity process regarding the proper and correct way and process of slaughtering sacrificial animals according to Islamic law.”

We as a committee hope that this activity will continue and invite enthusiastic Physics Department residents to save and participate in Qurbani Savings activities. In the future, the Qurban activity itself can continue to be a means of developing social awareness for civitas academia of Physics Department.
