Currently, we are in the 5.0 era, namely the era of technology, resources and science and technology which have a big role in society. If progress in science and technology gets better, then in the future technological development will be even faster. The younger generation plays a major role in the 5.0 era and has a huge opportunity to be able to contribute to realizing the era of technological development. Their innovative and creative ideas are really needed and must be realized. Contributions to generation 5.0 can be made through the use of resources owned by the country and also through advances in science and technology which are increasingly developing due to the impact of current globalization.

This national competition can be seen as the effort in achieving the equality of education (Goal 4) from Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, related to the theme of the event, it can also stimulate the young generation to think innovatively in order to develop resilience infrastructure involving the use of technology (Goal 9). Some of the participants in the event proposed ideas related to the renewable energy as the part of Goal 7 (Ensure access affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all).

Following up on this phenomenon, the Nucleon Physics Department Student Association (HMD) held the Nucleon Science Papers Contest (Nuspest) with the theme “Innovation Era 5.0 Generation in Contribution to Resource Utilization and Advancement in Science and Technology”, with three sub-themes, namely science and technology, education and sustainable development. This Nucleon Science Papers Contest (Nuspest) activity will open up opportunities for all students in Indonesia who are the current generation of the 5.0 era, to innovate and contribute regarding the use of resources and advances in science and technology to realize technological developments in the 5.0 era in the form of scientific papers. With the hope that these innovations or ideas can be realized in the future and play a role in future technological developments.

Nucleon Science Papers Contest (Nuspest) is a scientific writing competition for undergraduate/diploma students which can be participated in by students from universities throughout Indonesia. This scientific writing competition is always held every year, but Nuspest 2023 is different from the previous year, where there are two types of competition categories, namely articles and essays. In this competition, articles can be entered in team form, while essays can be entered individually.

The 2023 Nucleon Science Papers Contest begins with the participant registration stage which is carried out in two waves, namely wave 1 registration and wave 2 registration. Wave 1 registration is open from 5–19 June 2023 and wave 2 on 20 June–4 July 2023. However, Because the enthusiasm of the participants at the end of registration was very great, a registration extension was held for 7 days, starting from 5-11 July 2023. From the two waves of registration and the registration extension, there were more than 50 participants from 17 universities in Indonesia.

After registration ends, the next stage is collecting work, both articles and essays. At this stage, two waves were held, namely wave 1 on 3–16 July 2023 and wave 2 on 17–23 July 2023. At this stage participants were asked to submit their full paper work along with a sheet of the originality of their work. Because there were several participants who had not submitted their work, there was an extension of the submission for one day, namely until July 24 2023.

All participants’ works, both essays and articles, are summarized and given to the jury for assessment. Each category of work has different assessment criteria and parameters. The jury for Nuspest 2023 is 3 people for articles and 2 people for essays where all the judges are lecturers from the Department of Physics, State University of Malang. After being assessed by the jury, 6 teams from articles and 6 participants from essays with the highest scores were entitled to take part in the next stage, namely the grand final, where the 6 participants from each work category were announced via the participants’ WhatsApp group and also on Instagram @nuspestkti on July 29, 2023.

To equip the finalists for the grand final, a grand final technical meeting was held on July 30 2023 which discussed the mechanisms and provisions for the grand final. The 2023 Nucleon Science Papers Contest grand final will be held on August 6 2023 online via Zoom Video Conference. At this grand final stage, the finalists presented their work in powerpoint form in front of the jury. Apart from that, the jury was also allowed to ask questions to the finalists who had made their presentations. After all the finalist presentations were completed, the three best participants were obtained from the articles and essays who had the highest scores and became the winners of Nuspest 2023.

“MasyaAllah, I really didn’t expect that the enthusiasm of students to register for Nuspest this year was better than last year. It’s great that many people want to develop their scientific knowledge through essays and articles, meaning that many students care about their insights and want to develop them. I was also quite surprised that the Head of the Department of Physics at UM gave the Nuspest 1st Place winner the opportunity to continue his Masters for free up to the cost of his research.

“We hope that in the future there will be many more people who will be enthusiastic about taking part in Nuspest,” said Bernessa Gilda Fitriannisa, as Regent of Physics Students at Nucleon UM 2023. “Alhamdulillah, this year’s Nuspest was a success. This year’s Nuspest experienced significant development compared to previous years. The existence of a new field in the competition, namely essays, can attract the interest of Nuspest participants. “I, as the Head of Reasoning, really appreciate this development, hopefully next year nuspest can still survive and develop even more successfully,” said Arizal Daniar as Head of the Reasoning Division of HMD Physics Nucleon UM 2023.

“Nuspest 2023 is cool. “The committee and the jury were good, and thank God the event ran smoothly, it was a success and the enthusiasm continues for Nuspest, enthusiasm for preparing for Nuspest 2024!” Said Annisa Citra Gitaswari as a participant in the 2023 Nucleon Science Papers Contest.

By holding the Nucleon Science Papers Contest 2023, it is hoped that more and more students in Indonesia will continue to develop their abilities in the field of scientific writing, as well as obtain creative and innovative ideas from the 5.0 generation to help utilize resources and progress. science and technology in Indonesia in the future.
